What natural stone should I put in my bathroom
I’m completely remodeling my bathroom and luckily have access to very
discounted natural stones and tiles like granite, marble, onyx,
travertine, mosaics and what not (no glass tiles tho)…. l need to decide
by Monday what l wanna do since l have a contractor coming in…. It is
full bathroom; however, it is relatively small in size…. l already have
a nice black vanity area with the outside glass bowl and an absolute black
countertop. l was thinking about putting 12x12 absolute black tiles on a floor but have no idea how to do shower stall? What would like nice with black granite? l was thinking about some onyx mosaic on the shower floor and maybe honey onyx on the walls??? Also which paint would look nice??? l am looking for something modern, sharp and simple in form.... Please help….
Granite & marble stain terribly with water (unless you
continually apply protective coating). Black will show water spots &
litter/dust like grazy. I once put in a black sink with black kitchen
appliance & regretted the sink from the second day.
I would not use anything else all black if ur floor will be black tile.
Black tile looks different from black natural stone. Only use the black as an accent in the bathroom wall & shower floors. If you are picking tile for the floor go bigger than 12x12, & lay it diagonally: makes the room seem bigger & any border variations in outlines will not be noticable. I have done several homes now with diagonal layout & everyone just loves it Mosaic is in style now but I would use it as an accent so it does not get dated too soon. Tavertine is always a classic & not too expensive & comes with trim & various patterns of mosaic strips. It stands well to abuse of water. scale, & soap.It also needs to be sealed but it does not get stained like marble & granite. I loved a look I saw in a bathroom where the shower had part of the surrounding wall done in several shades of narrow mosaic (small rectangle cut tavertine) like rain, darker at the top fading to lighter (makes room look bigge since eye is atracted tohigher pattern) You could combine black & honey (honey is my favorite ''neutral'' color for today)in diffrent shades of black/grey/honey mosaic tile to get the rain effect, then finish the bottom with a honey colored tavertine. for the shower floor use a small pattern tile same as floor. Tavertine & slate look great together. check if you have access to natural slate tile which gose with black & honey. With slate, as with any other surface in a BA, you should check for slipping on wet surface & how rough the surface is for bare feet. Tavertine floors, & slate shower would look great. Slate on the BA floor may be too rough. In a small BA with a black vanity, I would not put too much more dark shades in there. else it looks too dark. I did a bath in dark chocolate/honey & white - everyone loved it. if you can use white in ur BA - that is a good contrast color. For a sleek modern look you should not have too many colors else it is 50 is or 70 is LSD. The fewer dominant colors you put into the long term items (tile) you can change the look be changing accessories. Black-honey-(off)white is very classic & neutral, you can add any colors to that.
Granite and marble might be a tad dark depending on the color
you pick. You also don't want to go too dark with the vanity already
being black, it will feel like a cave. How about travertine with a sage
green paint?
